Butterflies are a beautiful insect that live anywhere from 2 days to 11 months.  The fastest butterflies can fly up to 30 mph per hour.  Most butterflies are found in tropical rainforests, but they can live in all seasons and elevations of the world.  The butterfly transfers to survive the cold weather.
One of the most amazing things about this insect is how butterflies change from caterpillars.  This is called metamorphosis. First the caterpillar makes a cocoon and then seals itself in the cocoon.  Special chemicals are then released which transform the cells of the caterpillar into a butterfly form.  This is one of the more amazing events in nature!  We will describe all the various stages in the life of a butterfly below.
The adult butterfly has four wings that are covered with small colors, giving them colorful and varied designs.  He has six legs, two antennae, a head, compound eyes, a chest, and a belly.  They can sense the air for nectar with their antennas.  Butterflies have a great eye.  Butterflies play an important role in ecology as pollinators.  Adult butterflies eat only fluids like pollen, fruit juices, and tree sap, but they mostly remain nectar-like from flowers.  They eat like a tongue with a long tube that sucks pollen like a straw.
